A mix held together by voice. Agnes Obel, Melanie De Biasio, Tamino and Warhaus move through a hushed, art-pop kind of intimacy—songs that lean close and stay there. Across from them, the Arab alternative lineage: Soapkills and Yasmine Hamdan—who taught Arabic melody to sit inside trip-hop and electronics—and a generation that followed them out—Mashrou’ Leila, El Far3i, Lana Lubany, Saint Levant. Two scenes that rarely share a room, listening to each other for an hour.
